23 Best Gifts for Artists, According to Artists
By Hilary Reid As artists, there are so many tools we use. Especially there are tools we need. Since we are closer to the start of holiday season, this article gives a list of gifts that are perfect for artists! Whether it is for a special artist in your life or you are buying for you, this list gives a good range of gifts. Instead of the basic sketchbook and pencil, this list has a lot of fun, quirky, and interesting gift ideas for that special artist in your life. Personally, I would love to get 14 out of the 23 gifts listed. Which one or ones would you like to get as a gift? Which would you give as a gift?

Yes! I want the scissors, marker, books, and the massage!

I personally am not a big fan of most of these items listed on the site. It seems like hipster-popular culture based things that don’t necessarily embody the type of artist I am or what gift I would like. In a very vague sense, I guess it would be important to note that we all have different tastes, and the best gift is ART SUPPLIES!!!! Money, validation, and maybe purchasing a piece or two wouldn’t hurt either.

I agree as well. But what was interesting about this article was that they talked to about 14 artists. We all have our taste but in the end, as you said, art supplies, money, validation, and purchasing our work wouldn't hurt either. haha

I very much agree with what Tijera said, I'm not a huge fan of anything they listed beyond the MET membership or massage lol. I love the idea of art swapping with other artist friends as a gift idea, or simply going art supply shopping together much more than getting some random fancy thing I may never use. And heck yeah, also just supporting our work in general (by showing up to events, showing love for our work, or even spending money on our creations); that's the best kind of gift to me

The article is quite brilliant! Not only are the items listed chosen by artists, but the list includes specific brands they recommend. I would love to receive the notebook, frames, ceramic keychain, and museum membership. For a fellow artist friend I would give them the macaroons, wine, and Rubens art book.

I would personally like to receive the Domaine de la Romanee-Conti la Tache wine as a gift. The reason is because I want to taste what a wine that costs nearly $4,000 tastes like and also because I am becoming more interested in wine and other alcoholic beverages. From an artist perspective I would like to receive the wine as a gift because I read an article about an artist that made an art while drunk and the result came out to be something of an extraordinary form. So I thought I could try making an art while drunk and see what I get. As a gift to give, I would like to give a Hay time hourglass. The reason is because as an artist, we are always under time constraint and time is almost everything to us. So we are always pressured to finish our work by certain time and it causes a lot of stress. However, I want people to understand that time is not only something that could pressure you but also something that could be used to heal you. By healing it can be as simple as maybe placing the hourglass next to you and mediating while the sand slips down to the bottom and just that simple action can relax you and heal you.

Thank you for your informative comment. I also think the hour glass would be a good gift. The hour glass would be good for meditation and to be productive. I would use it to time myself when sketching.

The best gifts on this list to receive or give would be the on demand massages an/or the cannabis assorted macaroons in my opinion. Would be a great gift to receive after a stressful semester!

Cannabis macaroons!! I love how they were like oh they're non-GMO, vegan, paleo, and gluten-free and will help an artist chill out. LMAO

I would not mind having any of these items. I personally love any craft supply, art book or art piece. Some of the items are pretty pricey can they make a list for broke college art students lol

As a girl who loves a good pair of scissors, I am currently drooling over the Teflon-coated pair on this list. As long as they come in a left-handed version!

It's funny because my friends always comment on how easy it is to shop for me. Art supplies are a safe bet for me, even if it's cheap one dollar items or recycled, I will always love the gift and find a way to make something. The only problem is that if people gift me art supplies, I tend to find a way to make something using that item as a thank you gift.

I will buy the scissors, as a person who loves to do a lot of craft, a good pair of scissors will be fantastic, so I don't have to struggle when I cut a lot of maskin type or paper.

This is such a good list, so many things I didn't even know I needed, and so much great stuff to gift! The OP-1 is indeed a beast, it is one of those pieces in the studio that is just so very satisfying to use.
